MS wants to sell their software as a service!
(I am not referring to the Windows Update found in Windows 98/2K or the Software Update found in Mac OS 9. Those are the best, so far, in painless software updating that I've found.) Mac OS updates can take about ten to twenty minutes, and maybe require a few application updates to fix issues.

software updating for multiple machines
After what I went through (and what Roger still seems to be going through) I'd either hold off, download the combo or, preferably, both. I've a nasty feeling that 10.5.2 is going to generate more than the normal amount of horror stories. Hmm. Perhaps I should leave off updating to Leonard on my iLamp.

Antivirus software updating over ISA
Hmm. Perhaps I should leave off updating to Leonard on my iLamp. I would love to get a new Mac, but the credit cards must be left alone for now. Yeah I'd stick with Tiger on the lamp unless it offers some feature you'd really need. I'm still on Tiger on both the MDD & the MacBook despite the fact I've got a Leonard

Mozilla users which have subscribed to this service, would then be notified. When this notification reaches the user, they could click on a confirmation, and be updated with the current software. New Software Update Procedure??
Hmm. Perhaps I should leave off updating to Leonard on my iLamp. I would love to get a new Mac, but the credit cards must be left alone for now. If you earn a living from it, I'd hold off a few days. I don't think there's anything especially critical in it. I take it you've angered the credit cards?

what's the right way to update?
For a reasonable monthly fee, even I would subscribe to something like that since it offers the same convenient updating service that Ubuntu offers except that it only installs quality software (and not the crap that Linux users consider default and decent). I assume that Microsoft would also take care of offering

It doesn't bother people that a new client won't be confirmed?
It brings support for the Apple Lossless Encoder, improved AAC Encoding as well as optimized iTunes (4.5) - and to QuickTime application support. Many people feel this combo updater is a "safer" option (ie less problematic). My mileage has varied. I'm updating an Intel iMac from 10.5.1 via Software Update and my download is shown as 341MB. I think all the "software updating" they do is the PRL, that's it.
